When a telescopic conveyor fails at a high-volume e-commerce fulfillment centre, every hour of downtime has a direct cost. In September 2023, Horizon Industrial responded to an emergency repair call at a major Calgary fulfillment operation, diagnosing and restoring a MaxxReach telescopic conveyor to full working order under time pressure.
Project Overview
A major e-commerce fulfillment centre in Calgary experienced a mechanical failure on a MaxxReach telescopic conveyor unit — a critical piece of equipment used for loading and unloading trailers in their inbound and outbound docks. Horizon Industrial was called in to assess, diagnose, and repair the unit with minimal operational downtime.
The Challenge
Fulfillment centres at this scale operate around the clock. A failed telescopic conveyor creates an immediate bottleneck at the dock door it serves, with downstream impacts on sortation, staging, and shipping SLAs. The repair needed to happen fast — and it needed to be right the first time.
Diagnosis and Repair
Horizon Industrial’s millwrights attended site, performed a full mechanical assessment of the MaxxReach unit, and identified the root cause of the failure. The repair scope was executed on-site, with the unit returned to full operational status. All work was completed in compliance with the facility’s safety requirements, including a Job Hazard Analysis completed prior to commencement.
Results
The MaxxReach telescopic conveyor was restored to full operational status, returning the affected dock door to service. Horizon Industrial’s rapid response and efficient execution minimized the operational impact on the facility.
Fast, professional, and no callbacks. Horizon had our conveyor back up and running with minimal disruption to our operation.
