Conveyor Site Assessment — Edmonton Courier Hub | Horizon Industrial

Conveyor System Facility Assessment — Edmonton Area Courier Hub (2021)

Horizon Industrial conducted a two-phase facility inspection and consulting engagement at a major Edmonton-area courier hub, producing a comprehensive condition report across the entire conveyor network.
Conveyor system inspection at an Edmonton-area courier and logistics facility

Before a single conveyor belt turns, a successful material handling installation starts with knowing exactly what you’re walking into. In November 2021, Horizon Industrial conducted a comprehensive pre-installation site assessment at a major courier and logistics hub near Edmonton — ensuring the upcoming conveyor installation would proceed without surprises.

Project Overview

Horizon Industrial was engaged to perform a detailed site visit and technical assessment at a national courier and logistics facility located in Nisku, Alberta. The facility was nearing occupancy completion, with conveyor installation identified as the final major trade scope. Our role was to evaluate site readiness and document outstanding coordination items before mobilization.

What We Found on Site

On arrival, the base building was complete — electrical, HVAC, and plumbing were in place, offices had received final cleaning, and washrooms were operational. Lockers had been installed and data infrastructure was 95% complete, with only parts outstanding. Power drops were confirmed complete and all wiring had been run to distribution cabinets.

Security infrastructure was in progress at the time of the visit: all exterior camera mounts were installed, with interior mounts approximately 50% complete. The security contractor was deliberately holding remaining work until conveyor installation was complete — a coordination point Horizon flagged for scheduling alignment.

Conveyor Readiness Assessment

The site visit confirmed that the facility was ready to receive conveyor installation. Horizon Industrial documented all outstanding trade coordination items, identified sequencing dependencies between the security contractor and conveyor work, and confirmed power and data infrastructure was in place to support the installation scope.

Value of Pre-Installation Assessment

By conducting a thorough site assessment before mobilization, Horizon Industrial eliminated the risk of costly delays on installation day. Clients in the logistics sector operate on tight go-live timelines — a single missed coordination item can push a facility opening by days or weeks. Our pre-installation process ensures every dependency is identified and resolved before boots hit the floor.

Site readiness confirmed. Power, data, and structural infrastructure were in place — Horizon’s assessment gave the client full confidence to proceed with conveyor installation on schedule.
